Mountain Home

On my twentieth summer
I wandered on my own.
To find the land that God had made
and man had never known.
I found a land of beauty I never would have known.
Had not my twentieth summer brought me here
to my mountain home

I left the hurried city and all my cares behind
and journeyed towards the west coast to see what I might find
I wandered over mountains
through forests dark and green
Oh, it would take a thousand days to tell what I have seen.
(Repeat first stanza)

For it's here I can be happy and here I love to roam
but my heart will still be yearning for the girl I left back home
So I'll be gone by Monday to make her mine alone
and on my twenty-first summer bring her here
To my mountain home.
(Repeat first stanza)

This song has always been very special to me. I brought it to BSR the summer of 2016 when I was program director. We would always sing it after campfire.
